Why you should be trimming your candle's wicks after EVERY burn
If you're an avid candle lover, you've heard this before. You've heard the mention of "trim those wick". If not, where have you been?
Traditional candles are created using wicks (cotton, paper or zinc). Candle wicks serve the purpose of simply providing fuel (wax) to the flame. In the simplest explanation, the wick draws the liquefied wax up into the flame to burn, and thus the fragrance is driven into your intimate space.
What to trim your wicks with you ask? Well, Wick trimmers are going to be your go-to for this.
Save your candle, prevent overheating.
Keeping your candle wick trimmed with your handy wick trimmer tool helps to control it's flame and the flame height. A candle flame that is fueled by an untrimmed wick poses many dangers and inconveniences, one of which includes the possibility of your candle vessel overheating.
Although this may sound like only a slight stew, it can actually set forth the possibility of glass breakage. Of course, like it sounds, this would destroy the entire candle as a whole, and could also pose the risk of the flame catching on to surrounding items.
Give the Boot to Soot!
Soot, you're either really familiar with it or you're NOT! Soot is the fine BLACK powdery/flaky substance that eventually builds up on your candle's jar, poisoning the aesthetics of your candle.
Most times, not trimming your candle wick can be the breeding ground for soot build-up, this as a result of an untamed flame that generates overheating, Also, when a wick gets too long it cannot draw wax up to the top of the wick. Therefore, the wick starts to burn which will cause soot.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you are using your wick trimmer and trimming your candle wick between ¼” prior to every burn as this helps to decrease or eliminate soot as a whole.
Long Live my Candle!
Imagine, you've just struck your match, preparing to set flame to your candle wick-- an untrimmed wick, JUST HORRIBLE!
